The Annual AV Competition was held last Thursday (29th August 13) and judged by a great friend of SLPS, Mr Gordon Jenkins. It was pleasing that this year we had an increased entry of 13 sequences. The subjects were wide ranging and included Liverpool Pride, Carnival Queen, Daytona, Brazilica, Venice Carnival, Shot at Dawn, Breezy Knees, Workington Opera House, Puffins, The Great Gathering, The Pantanal and Water Sport. All the sequences had been pre judged and were constructively critiqued by Gordon, giving tips on improving sequences – both helpful to the individual workers as well as helping those members who will submit entries in the future. Gordon also indicated that it would be worth entering sequences in to the Annual L&CPU AV Competition which will be held in early 2014. In the first half 7 sequences were shown before the break. In the second half the 6 award winning sequences were shown and the awards were as follows –
Commended was Shot at Dawn by Ed Foy
Highly Commended was Brazilica by Wayne Brocken
Very Highly Commended was Workington Opera House by Ed Foy
Third Place was The Great Gathering by Martin Reece
Second Place was Breezy Knees by Martin Reece
First Place was Venice and its Carnival by Martin Reece
On the evening Gordon decided to make an additional Commended award to Mike Lawson for his sequence Puffins.
All in all a great evening even if Martin was a little embarrassed at taking the top three awards. Gordon presented awards (see photos below) The evening was concluded by a vote of thanks by Tony Myers.
This concluded our excellent Summer Season and our thanks must go to Irene Drummond and Denis Foy who put it all together.
