Review by Mal Holmes
Tonight’s showing to the Society, was from Southport Photographic Society, showing their digital print images (DPI’s) from their 70th year Southport Photographic ‘Salon’.
On a personal note… It shows how inadequate my own photography is, and the need to step up to the plate and improve when we see ‘exemplars’ from Club/Society photographers, all over the country.
The evening began with a showing of open monochromatic images, which were simple superb, from genres such as Portraiture, Composites, Nature and many more… The second showing of the evening, was ‘Natural History’ and I have to say if I thought the first showing was superb… some of the entries in the genre, were breathtaking, culminating in a sublime image of two Greater Crested Grebe’s feeding young…
After the break, we were shown, general open DPI’s encompassing all genres of Southport Salon entries, for 2017. Hopefully Irene, will rustle up the winning images from the SPS, to attach to this report, as it is transferred onto our website.
All in all, a great evening, showing the best of the best from Photographic Societies and Clubs all over the UK.
