Jane and Adrian Lines

Jane and Adrian Lines

It can always be guaranteed to be a great and interesting SLPS night, when the ‘Lines’ walk through our meeting hall doors… Tonight was to be no exception…

The South Liverpool, warmly welcomed, Adrian Lines (MPAGB – FBPE – EFIAP – ARPS) and his wife Jane Michelle Lines (MPAGB – BPE5* – LRPS)…

Of course many of our members have followed Adrian & Jane’s, work with interest over the years, and the elder members of the Society, have seen their work evolve from earlier visits to the art-form it is today… with their ever more confident techniques in the editing suites, it showed off their work to a new extent, and gave an added appeal to all members tonight. The couple told us of their recent travels to far-flung places, giving us tempting and highly anticipated, insights into their work to be presented at future visits… I for one will wait with baited breath for our next instalment.

This likeable couple, told us of their new involvement in the photography scene… After many years of photographing events to obtain characters for their ‘composites’… they have now become the characters themselves… dressing and joining, the bizarre world of the ‘steam punk’ models…. and they can now be seen at many of these events… posing and being directed by the very photographers, whose ranks they once belonged to…. So much respect goes to them !!!.. but of course they still take time out of these events, to gather their own material, for future art-work, and I ought imagine, being part of the models themselves, will open their gathering of character photos to another level, for us to enjoy at future presentations.

The evening began, with Adrian, showing and presenting 20 of his images, on a digital presentation, and by the use of differing photo overlays on top of the image before, from the initial cutting out, through texture and techniques… resulting in the final finished image, giving full and comprehensive explanations along the processing pathway, and answering any and all questions incurred on the editing route, this resulted in a deeper understanding, and the further satisfaction of our members…

Part 2 of the evening, was a showing of Jane’s own fantastic art work… in the same format as her husband’s. I found it really interesting to see, her take on events which they both visit, and although their composite photography form is alike in subject matter, there are subtle differences, which in my opinion, can only be described as masculine and feminine influences embedded in the final imagery. To see this comparison, was in my opinion truly unique, on the L&CPU presentation circuit, and a joy to behold.

The final piece of their presentation, was the showing of a large selection, of both Adrian & Jane’s work on a printed and mounted format, with each mount bearing the vast number of prestigious and worthy awards the individual print had obtained… Adrian took one side of the membership whilst Jane took the other, and the first member was handed a print, which was passed from member to member.. and soon ALL the members were studying print after print… after all prints were seen… Adrian & Jane, swapped sides and repeated the process once again so that all members obtained the full experience…

The evening ended, with Paul M, giving a well deserved vote of thanks, to Jane and Adrian… and it will no doubt be another superb night, when they next visit the SLPS Membership…

Following on from an elephant theme... no one can forget Adrian's superb set of imagery of his pachyderm theme a few years ago...

I was really impressed with this image.... and it was so interesting to see how the finished image was obtained, through the overlays, which Jane showed and explained to the membership
