Monthly Competition Rules

Monthly Competitions

We have four sections – Colour Prints, Mono Prints, Colour PDI and Mono PDI (Projected Digital Imgae)

Members can enter one image in each section.

There are six monthly competitions in the season, an individual’s five best monthly scores will count towards the Photographer of the Year award in each section.

Please note entries should be handed in on the submission date, not on the judging night.

email entries to slpscomps@gmail.com

PDI entries and digital version of your print entries to be projected on the screen for the audience to view on judging nights, should be submitted in the following format:

JPG

Size: 1600 pixels wide x 1200 pixels high (maximum)

Resolution: 72 dpi (dots per inch)

Colour space: sRGB

Print mount: 30cm x 25cm, the print can be any size up to a maximum 30cm x 25cm

RESIZING DIGITAL IMAGE images should be resized to 1600 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high maximum at 72 dpi.  No side should be longer than these numbers but can be shorter, as in the case of the portrait format or a letter box/panorama style.

If your image is 1600 pixels wide but less than 1200 pixels high, don’t try to make it 1200 pixels high, as this will distort your image. If your image is 1200 pixels high and less than 1600 pixels wide don’t try to make it 1600 pixels wide.

Prints Must Show

Month and Year, Competition Subject, Membership Number, Section and Image Title in the top left hand corner on the reverse of your print. This enables the print to be displayed the right way up.

DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON IT

For Example:

September 2024

Subject: Open

Member: 13

Section: Colour Print

Print Title: This is the Way to do it

If you are using a backing board to a windowed mount please make sure it is securely affixed, with no adhesive on the back or the front as this will damage other prints and you may be disqualified.

To enable the efficient processing of images for our monthly competitions it is essential that all digital files be named correctly, so that the entrant’s details are contained within the file name. They should also be saved as jpg images.

The information required to be used is as follows:

For your entries to be input into the Dicentra software please name your digital images as follows;

My Name_Picture Title_CP (the underscores are used as separators for the projection software)

Where the first half is the name of the entrant and the second half is the title of the image, the CP would mean Colour Print section, MP would be Mono Print section, DC would be Digital Colour section and DM means Digital Mono section.
